Welcome to your your kanes & wahinis.

For a tropical direction without particular authenticity, roasted sweet potatoes and/or a good hot rice pilaf or vegetable fried rice, a vaguely eastern mixed veggie- lots of good blends are new, such as "zen mix". A cold mixed salad such as marinated artichoke hearts and peppers. A pineapple chutney or salsa. A beautiful fruit platter with melons and pineapples, papaya and strawberries.

Desserts, maybe guava cake, coconut custard, banana pudidng.

You want 3/4 of the amount for 100 for 70 people.

For drinks, how about spirited punches:
Mai Tais
Tropical Punch
Pina Coladas for a Crowd
Lime Rum Slush
a Spirited Luau Punch or Banana Punch
Rum is the usual spirit base-

1 gallon makes 32 drinks- allow 2 per person the first hour and one for each additional hour.

shrimp
hi Ellen, my question is about breaded shrimp.I don't think they'll be as messy as peel and eat so I was leaning towards the breaded. Can they be baked instead of deep fried? I've only ever deep fried them before. I'm having a few people over for a small get together

In the frozen food section, several brands have oven directions. Try a box first before the party to make sure you like them.
