My daughter is allergic to MSG which is in many prepared products - sometimes listed as 'spices'. Some recipes which sound interesting call for condensed soup. Whole Foods as soups but they are already diluted. Do you have any ideas on substituting for the condensed soup? Thanks. |

1 cup of thick white sauce will substitute for 1 cup condensed soup in almost any recipe. You make this with 1 cup milk, 1-2 tablespoons of butter and 3-4 tablespoons of flour. If you are going to freeze or crockpot it, evaporated milk is the best choice- less curdling- but for most uses, regular whole milk is fine. You can season to taste, add bouillon powder, dried mushroom powder, dried celery or other vegetable flakes, garlic, a few tablespoons of tomato paste... Play with it, you will get good results. |
