I just stumbled upon this site while researching unsafe cookware. Absolutely love it! It's a place to educate and empower each other. Thanks Ellen for your effort in maintaining this site and addressing questions/issues!! Recently, I heard a cookware demonstrator talked about how unsafe teflon coated pots and pans are. After doing extensive research, I couldn't agree more. I am now looking for replacement cookware. Le Creuset's line of enameled-coated cast iron came up high on the list of safe cookware. If anyone knows of any other quality brand, I would love to hear from you. I also want to stay away from aluminum and copper-lined stainless steel. I am also hoping that others will become aware and quit buying unsafe cookware to send manufacturers a message that we know better and want to hold them accountable for products hazardous to our health. Think about it, all the food you have eaten at potlucks, restaurants, dinner invitations--what were they cooked in? Let's spread the word because it ultimately benefits us all. |

I am not surprised to hear that a cookware demonstrator was spreading false information about "other types of cookware". Copper-lined stainless cookware is safe to use because only the stainless steel comes in in contact with the food when used properly (ie., not upside-down). Aluminum is the third most common element on the planet after oxygen (what we breathe)and silica (sand) and is also safe to use. It has not been proven by any scientific method other than "talk show hosts" to cause harm. Owing to the prevalence of aluminum in our environment, we should all have Alzheimer's. Teflon is an inert material and will pass through the body without harm which is why it is often used in making implants such as heart valves and artifical hip joints. When teflon is over heated, it does emit fumes that can be irritating, but by that time your pan will probably be warped beyond usefullness and your food will be charcoal. So go ahead and use whatever cookware you want as long as it is made by a reputable company and will last you long enough to be worth the money! Dave, More science, less Sci-Fi |

My principle reservation about Teflon is that I DO occasionally way overheat an empty pan, and the fume range is well within what you can achive on a kitchen stove by overheating an empty pan. I do use and enjoy the multiply pans with stainless steel next to the food. I like iron pans for many uses. |

Saladmaster Cookware is the cadillac of cookware, if your looking to replace what you are cooking with. These are not pots and pans, it is a system of cooking. I have a set and wouldn't use anything else. If you are interested contact me! This cookware has a lifetime guarantee. We'll come demonstrate them in your home and show you how to use them. |

Peggy, my chief reservation about any set is that I think it is more fun and easier to cook in the right size and type pot for the food- so I often have 3 3 quart pots on at the same time, or iron, enamel and stainless, etc. So I am not a big fan of sets. |
