Question: My white coffee mugs have black scratches on the bottom from where the spoons have stirred over the years. My father-in-law says that this is dangerous, this is where the lead is now seeping into our drink. Is this correct? Shall I toss my favorite coffee mugs ASAP? Then, what mugs should I look for in the future that will not get this? Can this be avoided? |

If they were silver spoons, that is not a problem as far as I know- silver sulfite- Lead is not there to get in if it is modern US made ceramic. Also, you can buy a lead test kit at Home Depot or Lowes and check them. I guess you could use plastic or wooden spoons... |
