I would like to know how to figure out how much food is needed for 50 people, per food item. For example, I would like to have roasted chicken pieces(thighs, breasts, drumsticks), ribs, a pasta dish, roasted potatoes and steamed clams.

Do you actually make each item for 50 people?

The steamed clams are the budget breaker, as you must allow 3-4 per person in addition to the opther meats. For mixed chicken and ribs, allow 1/2 pound raw ribs PLUS 1/2 pound bone in chicken pieces per person- people eat more and some of each when there are several choices.

Roasted potatoes, start with 35 pounds raw for 100, or 15-18 for 50.

Pasta depends on salad or baked,m, but basically you will start with 3-4 pounds raw for salad, 4-5 pounds for baked.

Sabina, could you tell me what type of event/ workshop/retreat this is, and what type of kitchen/ cooking and cleanup facilities and how much help you will have? All these things make a big difference in terms of menus, expenses, and so on.

I'm throwing a BBQ for 60 people.... How do I figure out how many Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Chicken I need?

1 piece of chicken, PLUS 1 4 ounce burger per person, PLUS about 32-40 dogs and everyone will get their choice. Consider Polish sausage or kielbasa instead of hot dogs, tastier and about the same cost.

Hi! I am throwing a birthday party for my father. We are going to have about 50 people for a luau party. We are going to have pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, cheeses, and crackers. We are also having a full sheet of birthday cake. Can you give me an idea of how much I will need of each? Thanks!

See the fruit tray page and get twice the fruit specified on the fruit tray for 25. A dip would be a nice addition.

For the cheese and crackers, 10 pounds cheeses (part logs or spreads is OK) and 3-4 pounds crackers. Happy birthday, dad.
