Hot surface light on smooth top electric stove

Hi, I bought and returned a kenmore smooth top stove. When the hot surface light goes ot the burners are still hot enough to burn. I have a ge smoothtop for 10 years and when the hot surface lights went out (it had four one for each burner the kenmore only had one)the burner was still hot enought to burn. Is there a better brand to buy that the hot surface lights work better?
