Can I use an earthenware pot on a ceramic cooktop?

I've bought an earthenware tagine which needs to be used on low heat. Can I use this on my ceramic cooktop? On gas they recommend using a heat diffuser - can I use one of these on the ceraic cooktop?

Under NO circumstances use a diffuser on a ceramic top. I would not use a tangine either. Hot plates are safe and inexpensive.
