sweetening unsweet chocolate
Shawnie
11/11/09
I have tried to find this answer so please forgive me if I have missed it somewhere. I have to make some chocolate icing and found I am out of semisweet chocolate. Can I sweeten unsweet chocoate? I do not have sweetened condense milk. I saw another site that said to add hot cocoa packets until sweet enough. Any other suggestions so I don't have to make a trip to the store?

Yes, semisweet chocolate has about 4 teaspoons of sugar added to each ounce of unsweetened baking chocolate. You can also add an equivalent amount of powdered sugar, honey, corn syrup.
