Hi ellen,
What do you think the easiest meal is to make for a kids birthday party? I've done BBQ in the past but we are now sick of that entrée. Do you think a taco bar is simple and not expensive? We were thinking of just doing pizzas but I think that would cost us a ton of money for 40-50 ppl. Any suggestions?

A taco bar is simple and inexpensive, the kids mostly like the crunchy tacos, grownups like both. Use the guidelines for the baked potato bar.
Pizzas are not expensive if you make them from scratch, you do the crusts ahead and freeze, then top and bake day of, but you do have to crank up the oven to 450. The big rectangular ones are best use of oven.
Recently I attended a do it yourself pizza party where the cook passed out pita breads as crusts, and baked them 6 at a time. Worked well for 30 people. For 50, I might make up some plain cheese and pepperoni ones then just let those who want to make theirs.
